Timecard swiper installation guide (Discontinued)

Timecard swiper installation guide (Discontinued)

  • Plug the timecard swiper into the computer or, if you are moving it to a new computer, unplug the timecard swiper from the computer its currently plugged into
  • Move to the new computer
  • When you originally setup the timecard swiper, you should have installed the drivers.  Install those same drivers to the new computer.
  • Plug in the timecard swiper.
  • Windows should recognize it and attach the drivers you previously installed to the swiper.
  • For Windows 8, hold your mouse on the bottom right or top right of the screen so the side toolbar appears.  Type in Control Panel and search.  In the Control Panel, click on Devices and Printers.
  • For Windows 10, type in Control Panel on the search screen and click to open.  Click on Devices and Printers.
  • Locate the section that lists Comport or Port Devices.
  • Find the timecard swiper.  It may say ID-TECH or USB Port device.  It will have a port number at the end.  Make note of the number.

Next, setup the timeclock module on the new computer.

Next, configure timeclock to the correct port number

  • The timeclock may give you an error about a port number.  That is normal.  You now want to click the up arrow on the timeclock next to the port number and change it to match whatever port number was in Device Manager or Devices and Printers.
  • Once you have changed the port number, Exit the timeclock.  It will warn you that no one will be able to punch in or out.  Close it anyway.
  • Once it is closed, locate the startup folder and open it.  Click on timeclock.exe to open the timeclock.

If you have done the steps properly, you should see a timeclock icon at the bottom right hand corner of the screen by the date and time.  You may have to click the up arrow to show more running icons.  If you see the timeclock icon, it means it is running and you are able to swipe timecards.
