Power settings instructions

To successfully run a program that requires constant internet/network connection such as the smartphone application, or any workstation running Kennel Connection that is networked to one main computer, you must set your computer to never sleep.

Please note:  The instructions below are to assist you with these changes.  If you cannot locate these settings or your operating system looks different, you will need to contact a local technician to assist you.

Computer and Hard drive sleep options

  • Click the Windows Start button and choose "Control Panel".  Windows 8 or 10 users - move your mouse to the upper right hand corner of your screen and click on the "Search" icon.  Type in "Control" and look over to the left.  Click on "Control Panel".
  • In the upper right hand corner of the control panel, make sure your "View" is set to "Small Icons".  Vista users - Click "Switch to classic view" in the upper left hand corner.

Power settings

  • Choose "Power Options".  Power settings
  • Whichever plan is selected, click on "Change Plan Settings".

Power settings

  • Where it says "Put the computer to sleep", change to "Never".
  • Click on "Change advanced power settings".

Power settings

  • Next, look for the "Sleep" option and expand it.  Set "Sleep after" and "Hibernate after" both to "Never" without the quotations.

  • IMPORTANT UPDATE 11/26/2019. If you see the "Allow hybrid sleep" option in your advanced power settings like in the screen shot below, please disable it. It has been found to cause KC and other non-KC software along with the computer in general to lock up or become delayed while trying to come out of the hybrid sleep.

Power settings

  • If you are running WIFI, expand the "Wireless Adapter Settings" and make sure it is set to "Maximum Performance".
  • If you use any USB hardware devices such as the USB cash drawer or other items and have Windows 10, you must disable the USB Selective Suspend Feature as this will stop your devices from working. Expand the USB option and expand the USB selective suspend option and set it to Disabled.
