Networking your DSN in Windows 8

1.  Click on the 'File Explorer' icon DSN on Windows 8 down on your Windows task bar and then inside, click on 'Computer' over to the left.

2.  On the right hand side, look under 'Network Location' for your mapped Kennel Connection drive.  When you see it, double click on it.  If it opens, simply close it.


3.  Test Kennel Connection to see if it opens.  If it does not, proceed to step 4.


4.  Open the Windows Control Panel by moving your mouse to the upper right hand corner of the screen to bring up the Windows menu.  Click 'Search'.

5.  In the search field, type in 'Control' without the quotations.  Then choose Control Panel' from the search results on the left hand side.


6.  If your control panel is showing 'Categories', change it to 'Small Icons' in the upper right hand corner.

7.  Choose the 'Administrative Tools' option.


8.  Choose ODBC Data Sources (32-bit).

9.  Choose the tab that says 'System DSN'.  You will see a wkennel data source already there.  Double click on it.

10.  On the next screen, click the 'Select' button.


11.  On the 'Select Database' screen, click on 'Network' in the bottom right hand corner.

12.  In the 'Drive dropdown list' choose the SAME letter your other Kennel Connection drive is mapped with.  Then click on the 'Browse...' button.

13.  This will display the list of computers on your network.  Click the small right hand arrow next to your main computer.  


For Kennel Connection 5, click ONCE on the KC5 folder.  Click OK.

For Kennel Connection 6, click ONCE on the KC6 folder.  Click OK.

14.  On the 'Map Network Drive' screen, click 'Finish'.  This will then connect to the KC5 or KC6 folder on your main computer and bring you back to the 'Select Database' screen.


15.  In the 'drives dropdown' box, you will see it pointing to your mapped drive.  In the left hand column, you will see 'wkennel.mdb'.  Simply double click on it.

16.  This will take you back to the ODBC setup screen.  Simply click OK, then click OK on the next screen and close out of the Control Panel completely.


You have just remapped your DSN on a Windows 8 machine to the database on the main computer.  Save these instructions as you may need to do it again.
