Mapping a network drive for Kennel Connection 7

Note:  You must have the KC7 folder on your main/server machine shared with Everyone.  If you have not done so, do it now before proceeding with this document.  Directions can be found in the Kennel Connection 7 Networking Guide.  If you have already done this, proceed to the next step.

1.  Windows 7 users:  Click on Start, Computer.

Windows 8/10 users:  Click the File Explorer icon on your system tray (manila folder).  Inside of the Computer/File Explorer window, right mouse click on Computer or This PC on the left hand side of the window.  Choose Map Network Drive.

2.  Select a drive letter.  If you have already had a mapped drive and it became disconnected, choose the same drive letter as before to avoid having to make other changes.  If this is the first time you are mapping a drive, we recommend K for Kennel Connection.

3.   Click the Browse button and wait for your network to populate.  This may take a few moments.  Be patient and avoid any extra clicking.

4.  Locate the name of your main/server machine (the computer that has SQL Server and hosts the database) and click the little arrow to the left to expand your selection.  In the example below, the main/server machine is called XPS.

5.  If the KC7 has been shared properly, you should see the KC7 folder listed there.  Click on KC7 so it is highlighted and then click OK.  Do not click any subfolders under KC7.

6.  Make sure the option to Reconnect at sign-in is selected and choose Finish.

The mapped drive will now open and display the contents of the KC7 folder from your main/server computer.  Close this window.

You have successfully mapped a network drive.  If you encounter any errors or you cannot see your main computer listed in the network, you will need to contact a local computer professional to see if they can get the drives mapped.  The network setup is the responsibility of you and/or your technician.

If your computers are networked and can communicate but you are not able to network Kennel Connection, contact support at Support@KennelConnection.net or 1-888-486-4343 x 504.
