Setting up and using Employee Commissions

You can set different commission rates for different services and products and have Kennel Connection calculate the employee's commissions for a specified date range.

Please note:  Lite users do not have access to the employee setup and are unable to set up commissions.  Contact Sales if you would like to upgrade to the Standard version at Sales@SoftwareConnectionLLC.com or 1-888-486-4343 option 1.

In order for Commissions to work, you have to complete four steps.

Set the employee as commissionable and set their rates

Click on File, Employees, Payroll tab.

Each employee must be marked as Commissionable for the Pay Method.

Please note:  Even if you have the employee marked as commissionable, that employee can still punch in and out and have their hours tracked on the Time Card.

Commissions

Next, click on the Commissions tab.

You have two options for commission rates.

1 - Set an overall rate, which would give the employee the same rate for each service, 30% in our example for employee George.

Commissions

2 - Assign a different rate for each product and service.  We're going to give Bob a commission rate of 50% for Grooms (a service) and 10% for a cat toy blue (a product).

For the Groom:

Click on the Add button.

Click the "..." button.

Click the System option.

Choose Groom from the menu.

Add the rate for this service, whether it is a percentage or a flat rate $.  Hit OK when done.

For the cat toy:

Mark each inventory item as commissionable

Click on File, Inventory.

Click on the inventory item and click the Commissionable box.

You can also add a commission rate here.

Hit Save after each item.

Please note:  The way Kennel Connection works is it always looks at the employee's card to see if you have a commission rate entered there, either an overall rate or rate for that specific product or service.  If you do, KC will use that rate.  If there are no rates on the employee card, it will next look at the inventory screen and use the rates, if any, entered here.

Mark each Other Services, Special Services and Petsitting Types as commissionable

Please note:  Commission rates for these three services must be set in the Lists screen and each employee will get the same rate.

Click on File, Lists, Other Services tab, Special Services tab and Petsitting Types tab.

Click the Commissionable box and enter your rate here.  Choose whether a percentage or a flat rate $.

Hit Save after each item.

When you check the pet in and out and create the invoice, the employee will be assigned to the line item.  To verify this, right click on the line item and see if the employee is assigned.

If it says Employee: None or has the wrong person listed, click on Modify Employee to choose the correct one.

To print your commission report, click on Reports, Revenue, Commission report.

You can either print for all employees or a specific one.

We had two examples.  George has an overall rate of 30%.  Below is his commission report.

Our other employee Bob had a different rate for different services and products.  Below is his commission report.

Please note:  Bob is a commissioned employee but doesn't have a Bath rate on his employee record so KC will use the commission rate set in Inventory for Bath.
